What is a Centre Maintenance Volunteer?

Our Centre Maintenance volunteers provide essential help for staff to run a busy and innovative centre. If you enjoy DIY and making a real quality input into the upkeep of a busy public building then this role is for you.

What’s involved?

Far Ings Education & Visitor Centre is a busy venue providing visitor facilities and a small wildlife gift shop plus events, education, training and support to communities and for the benefit of wildlife. The role can include assisting the staff with minor repairs, facility checks and general premises upkeep. Occasionally assisting with the preparation and construction of outdoor learning and events equipment.

Who would this role suit?

Essential skills/experience:

  • DIY and decorating skills
  • Basic joinery and woodworking
  • A desire to make a difference to the running of a people and wildlife focused centre
  • H&S in the workplace

Desirable skills/experience:

  • An awareness of H&S in Public Buildings
  • Some basic knowledge of plumbing would be advantageous
  • Some grounds maintenance experience
