​​​​​​​Gibraltar Point lies just outside of Skegness, surrounded by 1,500 acres of National Nature Reserve. Positioned on the coast, it is the ideal location to explore the beach, sand dunes and saltmarsh.

With regular events planned for all ages, the Education Centre presents unique opportunities to experience and learn about the natural world first hand.

Education services for schools

The education provision offered by the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust at Gibraltar Point takes place in a variety of different ecosystems around the nature reserve. We can offer coastal activities including beach, sand dune and saltmarsh habitats, freshwater sampling and woodland activities. All activities offered can be linked to the National Curriculum to meet your education requirements.

The centre can cater for students from the age of five upwards and offers a truly outdoor learning experience.

Our Education Centre staff are fully qualified, DBS checked and have many years of experience in teaching and leading environmental education, nature conservation and outdoor recreation.

Facilities

The Education Centre offers:

  • Purpose built raised ponds
  • Extensive stocks of field study equipment, resources and activities to enhance your visit

The reserve

Gibraltar Point National Nature Reserve is an area of over 1,000 acres extending along the Lincolnshire coast, from the southern end of Skegness to the entrance of the Wash. It is comprised of sandy and muddy seashores, sand-dunes, saltmarshes, freshwater habitats and enclosed woodland.

Planning your visit

All group leaders can benefit from a free site pre-visit and planning session with our Education Officer who will supply you with:

  • Relevant risk assessments and health and safety information
  • A draft programme of activities for your group
  • Familiarisation with the on-site facilities
  • Relevant ‘master copy’ resource materials, if required, to enhance your day

On the event day, you will also receive: 

  • Free all day coach parking
  • A full day running from 10am until 2.30pm (additional time can be arranged at an additional cost)

All health and safety equipment will also be provided and tailored to your activities and needs.

Group rates

At Gibraltar Point our school offer runs from March to October. During the summer term we can cater for up to two groups (max. 35 per group). 
Each group benefits from their own dedicated Education Officer who will lead all your pre-booked activities.

Each group of up to 35 primary school students is £200 for the day. Groups of up to 35 secondary school students are £250 for the day.

Nature Tots

Seasonal activities for the under 5s

Nature Tots is designed for pre-school children with activities usually taking place outdoors, so please dress appropriately. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Prices are usually £3 per child and booking is essential. Check our events page for the latest activities.

Wildlife events

Home Education sessions

An exciting nature club for Home Education children and their families

Our Home Education sessions are a great way for your children explore their surroundings and get closer to the wildlife within it. Events take place once a month, usually outdoors, and range from pond dipping to shelter building so please dress appropriately. Prices are £3 per child or £5 for two children £7 for three children, and booking is essential. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

When: Every third Thursday of the month, 10:30am - 12:30pm unless stated otherwise in events page
