What is a Residential Nature Reserve Volunteer?

This is an exciting opportunity for a six-month residential volunteering placement with the opportunity of paid roles to support your voluntary time with us! This October-to-March placement is suitable for someone looking to begin a career in environmental conservation. The role involves assisting the reserves team in managing the Wildlife Trust’s north Lincolnshire reserves including practical habitat management of grassland, wetland, heathland and peatland sites, access maintenance and working with livestock.

Essential skills/experience:

  • A strong desire to work in the field of environmental conservation
  • A willingness to work outdoors in all weathers
  • Good communication skills
  • Good teamworking skills
  • Ability to be self-motivated

Desirable skills/experience:

  • Experience of working in an outdoor setting
  • Wildlife identification skills
  • First aid certificate
  • Driving licence
  • Some previous experience of environmental conservation

  • In addition to the volunteering commitment, two paid roles are available to provide financial support for your volunteering - as Centre Cleaner (up to nine hours a week) and Visitor Centre Weekend Duty Staff Member (Sundays for seven hours)

Commitment: Approximately 28 hours a week

Duration: Six months (October-March)
