About the event

Butterfly Identification and Recording Training Workshop

This half day is an opportunity to learn key tips to identify butterflies and record them to contribute to our knowledge and understanding of our butterflies in the County and nationally. No previous knowledge or expertise needed, beyond an interest in our wildlife.

The training will be led by Dr Ian Paterson, Chair of the Lincolnshire Branch of Butterfly Conservation, and John Davison the County recorder for butterfly records. The presentations (with information handouts) will give insights to help identify butterflies (even well-known and colourful species can be tricky at times), and the standard methods and ways to record your sightings or site surveys.

Following the presentations John and Ian will lead a walk to help participants put their new skills into practice around Whisby Nature Reserve to find and identify butterflies. The walk will also demonstrate the standard method for recording species on habitat transects for the national Butterfly Monitoring scheme.
