The final event of this year’s Lincolnshire Environmental Award will be held on Saturday 26 September, 10am – 2pm, at the Education Centre, Whisby Nature Park, Lincoln.

A team of judges have visited shortlisted community projects over the summer, and the event will conclude with the announcement of the winning project and the presentation of the Lincolnshire Environmental Award 2026. 

The four finalists are:

• Heckington Station Adopters
• Friends of Bottesford Beck, Scunthorpe
• Tealby village green community woodland, meadow and wildlife project
• Scunthorpe Ecoglove

Chris Milnes from the Rotary Club of Lindum, Lincoln said:
“We have visited some varied and inspiring projects this summer. It really shows that people across Lincolnshire are taking positive action for the benefit of wildlife, local people and visitors.”

As well as celebrating the achievements of the four communities, it’s a chance to share advice and actions that we can all take to help nature recover and communities thrive. 

Sue Fysh, Senior Community Officer for the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust said: 
“It’s the perfect opportunity to pick up tips on how to transform your garden, community space or small landholding into a haven for wildlife and be inspired by the amazing projects that are happening across Lincolnshire neighbourhoods.”

After the awards, attendees are invited to bring sandwiches and join the relaxed community picnic in the grounds of the Whisby Education Centre (drinks and nibbles will be provided).

On the day, the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust will also be unveiling the plans for the transformation of the Education Centre at Whisby Nature Park into the Whisby HUB (Helping Understand Biodiversity). The re-development of the building has been influenced by community groups across Lincolnshire so that the Trust can provide the support and learning opportunities that are most relevant for communities and individuals. There will be improved facilities for education, community activities and wildlife engagement, as well as a new wildlife garden, allotment area and orchard demonstrating how nature-friendly spaces can be created at home, in schools and in neighbourhoods.

The Lincolnshire Environmental Awards are organised by the Rotary Club of Lindum, Lincoln in partnership with the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust, and sponsored by Pennells Garden Centres, a longstanding family-owned business with centres in Lincoln, Cleethorpes and Sleaford.
