About the reserve

The Shrubberies comprise old parkland and pasture of a type now rare in the Fens with fine oak and other large trees. Some 49 species of birds and 12 species of butterflies have been recorded. There is a pond with a wooded island and adjoining marshy areas with fringing alders. The grassland is grazed by cattle and sometimes cut for hay. An acre of land was planted with native trees in 1989.
