Area Groups in North Lincolnshire
Hello from Barton Area Group!
There are nearly 100 Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust nature reserves, of which seven are on the South Humber Bank not far from Barton. To learn more about these nature reserves by guided walks and indoor talks, keep an eye on this webpage.
Evening meetings are held at the Visitor Centre, Far Ings National Nature Reserve. Be it birds, bats or butterflies we have local experts to guide you.
If you need exercise, but not a gym, then try out our Wednesday or Sunday work parties. They provide a rewarding and companionable way to keep fit whilst supporting wildlife locally.
For more information on our events, follow our Facebook page or get in touch with us below. We look forward to meeting you!

2026 talks programme
16 Sep: 'Corncrakes' by South Humber Warden, Simon Wellock.
Once widespread, corncrakes have declined dramatically in the UK, and the breeding population is now restricted to a few key areas. Unusually for a rail, they aren't found exclusively in wetlands, preferring to nest in meadows and hay fields. Corncrakes prefer areas with lots of tall plant cover, where they spend most of their time hidden from view - often the only sign a corncrake is present is the strange call given from dusk till dawn. They are summer visitors, wintering in central and southern Africa.
12 Oct: 'The Vanishing Viper' by Mid-Lincs Warden, Kevin James.
Kev's talk will cover the biology, ecology, and habitat requirements that adders need. He will also look at why their population has plummeted to the extent that 90% of the UK Adder population will become extinct in the next 10 years.
18 Nov: Photographic Evening
Are you an experienced photographer? Or only take a few photos with your phone as you're out and about? Come along to Far Ings Visitor Centre along with Barton Area Group to share some of your favourite shots with the group on their November photography evening. The photos can be of any subject, just bring them along on a memory stick to the visitor centre (up to 30 please). Even if you do not have any photos to share, please do still come along and enjoy the pictures that others have taken.
