We are lucky to have the lovely grade II listed Banovallum House in the heart of the market town of Horncastle as the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust's headquarters. The building, originally part of the estate of explorer and naturalist Sir Joseph Banks, sits within grounds that now comprise formal gardens and a small nature reserve, including a demo garden with wildlife pond and a circular walk incorporating around 200m of river bank.

Find out more about Banovallum House and the nature reserve here.

A part-time gardener maintains the grounds but we are hoping to find an individual or pair who would be happy to volunteer for a day - or two half days - a week, mainly in the formal garden. This takes in the main walled lawn area, the driveway and the surrounding beds. There is a need to plant up and manage the shrubs and formal borders, and this will give you a chance to use your creative gardening skills. We would look to emulate the Georgian and Victorian planting tradition and would prefer someone with horticultural skills and an ability to identify common garden plant varieties, as well as experience in pruning and propagation.

There are tool sheds on site and access to facilities, including a small kitchen with free tea and coffee.

This is a wonderful opportunity to enhance the formal garden that was once part of the Sir Joseph Banks estate, and if it's something you might be interested in taking on, please do get in touch to discuss further.
