Hello from Scunthorpe and Brigg Area Group!
Welcome! Here you can find information about our activities, details of our programmes, and how you can get involved. We’re a friendly group supporting the conservation work of the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust across Scunthorpe, Brigg and the surrounding area, and everyone is welcome, you don’t need to be a member to join us.
We host wildlife talks throughout the winter months at St Hugh’s Church Hall on Ashby Road, and during the summer we visit local wild places for guided walks. Our area includes two wonderful Trust reserves, Messingham Sand Quarry and Clapgate Pits, each offering its own unique habitats and species.

Events
All talks are held on a Thursday, 7.30pm at St. Hugh's Church, Ashby Road, Scunthorpe, DN16 2AG. There is a small, free car park at the church and at the Old Brumby United Church opposite, or on the roadside nearby. Refreshments are served during the interval.
Talks are £2.50. No booking required. You do not need to be a member to join our activities, all welcome!
2026 talks programme
10 Sep: 'Communication in Conservation' by Paul Chibeba, Head of Communications for Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust, with Sue Fysh (TBC).
Paul Chibeba will give an engaging insight into how the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust communicates its conservation work across the county, with updates on current projects and priorities. Sue Fysh may also join to share perspectives from the Humber area.
8 Oct: 'The Wildlife of the UK' by Mike Pickwell.
Photographer and naturalist Mike Pickwell will take us on a visual journey through Britain’s wildlife, showcasing some of the remarkable species and landscapes he has encountered.
12 Nov: 'Messingham Zoo' by Ian Gouldthorpe.
Ian Gouldthorpe returns to share the fascinating story of Messingham Zoo, exploring its history, characters, and the surprising wildlife connections behind this much‑loved local landmark.
10 Dec: 'Dormice' by Paul Manchester
Local ecologist Paul Manchester will introduce us to the secretive world of dormice, their ecology, the challenges they face, and the conservation work helping to protect them.
