Garden Bird Survey

Watch and record the birds in your local patch. Your patch could be your garden, school grounds or the view from a bird hide at your local nature reserve.

If you are already watching the birds in your garden, whether you put out food for them or not, this is the ideal survey for you. The basic requirement is to report the maximum number of birds seen using the garden at any one time. Two major statistics are produced from this: the mean peak count which shows changes in the numbers of birds using gardens and the percentage of survey weeks in which a species was recorded.
From this relatively simple survey an enormous amount of information is generated which enables us to monitor the populations of birds in the county. More people recording allows the statistics to be more robust.
