Large Red Damselfly
Pyrrhosoma nymphula

Quite unmistakable as it is the only red damselfly in the county. It is also the first odonatid to emerge each year, which it does at the end of April or early May, staying on the wing until early July.

It is found in a wide range of habitats across the county and is reasonably common. Nationally it is widespread and common.
