Shetland Cattle settle in at Whisby Nature Park

The Shetland Cow has suffered because of the almost universal switch to intensively reared animals and has now become an endangered breed, but it is very successful for conservation grazing which is vital to maintain grassland habitats at Whisby. The breed in Shetland is thought to date back to roughly 1000 A.D. when it may have been introduced by invading Vikings. Our animals are currently to be seen in the Grazing Marsh as shown below.
