The reserve is situated on Ewerby Waithe Common on the lane from Halfpenny Hatch (near South Kyme) to Ewerby Thorpe. The lane separates the pond from the high bank of the River Slea
Description and Management
Most of the reserve area is open water, probably created originally as a borrow-pit when the river bank was built. There is a reed fringe, with purple-loosestrife, greater spearwort, meadow-rue and both species of reedmace. Breeding birds include mute swan, Canada goose, mallard, moorhen, little grebe, tufted duck and reed and sedge warblers.
Little management is required other than the maintenance of a sluice to control the water-level, and the clearance of any dumped refuse.
