Eastfield Road Railway Embankment

Statement from Network Rail: “We are sorry that from June 2018 access to the Eastfield Road railway embankment by Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust will cease.

The land is now required to support delivery of a project which will enable larger freight wagons to run along the Doncaster to Immingham route. Rail freight is an important part of the economic and sustainable future of the country, removing 7.6 million lorry journeys from the roads each year.

A number of options were considered for the necessary work but, ultimately, the option which requires use of the embankment proved the most cost-effective as well as preventing the need to create an alternative access which would also impact upon wildlife.

Network Rail would like to thank the Trust and its members for the work which has been carried out to maintain this parcel of land over the past 30 years.”
