What is a Visitor Engagement Volunteer?

Gibraltar Point has had an information point on the nature reserve since 1963, providing information to those early visitors. Over the years this has evolved and the number of visitors has increased to 250,000 each year. We need your help to make sure these visitors get the most out of their time at Gibraltar Point. Our visitor engagement team is made up of friendly, outgoing individuals who love dealing with people.

What’s involved?

  • Working in the visitor centre, welcoming people, providing them with information to get the best from a visit and taking payments for retail goods
  • Helping us to run events and family activities
  • Spending time out on the reserve, chatting to visitors about the site, pointing out wildlife and helping them to use the reserve responsibly
  • Keeping an eye on the wildlife and checking the hides - reporting any damage or disturbance
  • Helping with beach cover and talking with visitors about shorebirds during the summer months

Who would this role suit?

Essential skills/experience:

  • An interest in nature and the natural world
  • Ability to communicate effectively with members of the public

Desirable skills/experience:

  • Understanding and support of the Wildlife Trust's principles of reserve management
  • An understanding of the needs of the public and native wildlife

Commitment: 1-2 days a week or as required
