Donna Nook Managed Realignment, North Somercotes

In December 2009 the Environment Agency submitted a planning application to East Lindsey District Council (ELDC) for a managed realignment of the coastal defences at Donna Nook near North Somercotes. The Trust supported the scheme as the aim was to create intertidal habitat to compensate for habitat losses within the Humber Estuary as a result of coastal squeeze. The application was refused by ELDC and the Environment Agency appealed against the refusal. The Trust submitted a Statement of Case to the Planning Inspectorate in March 2011 against the refusal and was prepared to attend the Public Inquiry to support the application. However, in the end the Public Inquiry was not necessary as the Environment Agency submitted a second planning application for the managed realignment in May 2011 which was subsequently approved by ELDC.
