It's English Tourism Week and Prime Minister David Cameron has spoken about tourism in Lincolnshire and has used the "tranquil Gibraltar Point National Nature Reserve" as an example of a key place for visitors.

In autumn the Greater Lincolnshire Nature Partnership highlighted the value of nature tourism to the Lincolnshire economy and the potential for growth in this area. National Nature Reserves like Gibraltar Point, Far Ings and Donna Nook are already hotspots for nature tourism and serve as inspiration for other places in Lincolnshire.

This week it is English Tourism Week and Prime Minister David Cameron has used "the tranquil Gibraltar Point National Nature Reserve" as an example of a tourist destination outside London that can inspire visitors.

The Prime Minister also spoke about Lincolnshire in general saying: "I love Lincolnshire".

"From the quaint market towns to the rolling countryside, this county is one of the many jewels in Great Britain's crown. It's no wonder it attracts 22 million day visits every year".

The Prime Minister highlighted the success of Lincolnshire as a tourist destination and how we can build on this success to bring more visitors north from London.

"Let me give you one shocking fact: for all the money that is spent by international tourists in our country, half is spent in London.

That means there are millions of visitors who come to Britain and never leave the M25; thousands who never get to experience places like Lincoln Cathedral and the tranquil Gibraltar Point National Nature Reserve".

The Prime Minister heralded the new visitor centre at Gibraltar Point as a good example of investment in a key place.

"…the Lincolnshire Coastal Observatories project has £1.75 million to deliver two stunning new visitor centres in key places: The Gibraltar Point National Nature Reserve and Chapel St Leonards”.

The Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust has always been in the vanguard when promoting Lincolnshire as a destination for visitors to explore. With so many wonderful wild places like Gibraltar Point National Nature Reserve there is something for everyone in this diverse county.
